Friends Aware Inc Residential Counselor in Cumberland, Maryland

Description:

  • Supervises all aspects of the residence operations, in accordance with COMAR regulations.
  • Remains abreast of new developments, legislation, and regulations in the field of Developmental Disabilities.
  • Supervises medication administration according to the policies and regulations of the DDA as delegated by the Registered Nurse including ensuring compliance of nursing protocols and delegated tasks by all staff.
  • Empowers each Individual to express their choices, while educating them about social responsibilities.
  • Represents the agency in all dealings with community and families while promoting adaptive social interactions and relationships.
  • Participates in the development and ensures all aspects of IP, Behavior Plan, (when indicated), goals, and services are carried out according to the Plan(s) and all documentation of such is complete in the Individuals files (computerized and written); completes monthly review and prepares for annual IP Meetings.
  • Assists with applications for Federal Medicaid Waiver funding for adaptive equipment or environmental modifications, medical assistance, food supplemental assistance, etc. as needed
  • Utilizing predetermined core indicators, is responsible for ensuring, tracking and reporting all outcomes.
  • Coordinates all health needs of Individuals and maintains all consumer files up to date throughout the year including; but not limited to Medical Files (computerized and/or written), IP, General, and Inactive Files.
  • Files, reviews, and monitors all Incident Reports for each Individual. Follows up with corrective measures as indicated.
  • Assists Individuals to utilize income in a conscientious manner.
  • Supervises and ensures Individuals funds and personal property are handled properly and accounted for according to policy including residential budget/purchases/petty cash.
  • Maintains and communicates updated staff schedules at least two-(2) weeks in advance and ensures adequate staff coverage to maintain staff ratios, as dictated in each persons IP.
  • Provides training, supervises, counsels and evaluates all regular staff and substitute employees.
  • Ensures training and delegation of tasks to be completed by staff in their absence.
  • Assists with the interviewing process of direct care staff and substitute staff.
  • Ensures the accuracy of all hours for payroll processing.
  • Communicates census changes to the Residential Manager and/or the Nursing Department when needed. Ensures accurate census is sent to Manager/Residential Director completing PCIS II each month.
  • Meets regularly with Residential Manager.
  • Ensures cleanliness and maintenance of the residence.
  • Schedules monthly fire drills and fire equipment checks.
  • Ensure Emergency Preparedness measures are in place for all Individuals and staff.
  • Reports all safety, health and maintenance issues to the proper staff/department.
  • Attends mandatory trainings as defined in Comar 10.22.01.11.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications

Qualifications:

HS diploma or G.E.D.

Preference given to those with experience in the field of developmental disabilities

  1. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  2. Basic computer skills.
  3. Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  4. Ability to read and interpret regulations.
  5. Ability to receive and maintain certification as a Certified Medication Technician (CMT).
  6. Knowledge of and experience in using Microsoft software and an ability to learn and effectively use other software applications within agency-designated timeframe.
  7. Must possess typing skills at a rate to be productive.
  8. Valid drivers license with a minimum of at least 3 years of driving experience and an agency approved driving record.
  9. Must be at least 21 years of age.
